MOST RECENTLY IN THE NO. 5: Landon Cassill most recently drove the No. 5 National Guard Chevrolet to a 12th-place finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway on Sept. 7. Starting 11th, the 19-year-old rookie ran inside the top 10 for 58 laps and inside the top 15 for 218 of the 250 laps. Cassill also took the Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the fifth time this season.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR LEADER: Cassill sits first in the Nationwide Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings, three points ahead of Bryan Clauson. Cassill assumed the top spot on Aug. 9, after the road course event at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.
AT DOVER: Cassill will make his third career Nationwide Series start at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Saturday. Most recently at Dover, Cassill started seventh and finished 25th. Cassill maintained his seventh-place position for the first 19 laps of the May 31 event until he received contact from behind, causing him to spin and hit the wall. The No. 5 Chevy received significant damage to the rear fender.
THIS SEASON: Cassill will make his 23rd career Nationwide Series start this weekend at Dover. It will be the 14th of 16 scheduled races in which Cassill will drive the No. 5 National Guard Chevrolet for JR Motorsports this season. Cassill shares the No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet with top drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson, Adrian Fernandez, Ron Fellows and Martin Truex Jr. The No. 5 team has posted two wins so far this season—Martin at Las Vegas and Fellows at Montreal.
DOVER CHASSIS: Crew chief Cam Strader has chosen JR Motorsports Chassis No. 275 for this weekend’s Nationwide Series race at Dover. Cassill ran this car at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in August when he started 27th and finished 22nd. The car also won at Bristol in March 2006 and scored top-five finishes there in March 2007 (third) and August 2007 (fourth).
‘NIGHT OF VICTORY’: On Sept. 17, Cassill will participate in “Night of Victory,” a United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) race at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. Cassill will join NASCAR drivers Kevin Harvick and David Stremme for the 20-lap shootout, with all proceeds going to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
ARCA SERIES: Cassill will race in the Oct. 3 ARCA Series event at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, driving the No. 88 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports. Cassill last competed in the series in February, when he qualified eighth and finished seventh at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Cassill ran inside the top 10 for 55 of the total 80 laps.
CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES: While in Alabama, Cassill also will run in the Craftsman Truck Series race, driving the No. 81 Randy Moss Motorsports Chevrolet. Cassill will line up for the Oct. 4 event at Talladega in a National Guard-sponsored Chevy, which is running in honor of a recruiting drive. In six career Truck Series starts, Cassill has recorded one top-five finish (third at The Milwaukee Mile in June) and two top-10s.
