ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL: Cassill will visit St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis on Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. local time. While there, Cassill will visit with the patients, sign autographs and take a tour of the hospital.
LANDON CASSILL, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET (ON HIS EXPECTATIONS FOR MEMPHIS.): “This weekend in Memphis, we expect to continue what we did this summer and run in the top 10. I think if we could run even top five, I could wrap up the Rookie of the Years points, and that would be a great accomplishment. And that’s kind of a goal for our team right now. We are really focusing on Rookie of the Year, and I’d like to go to Memphis and run in the top 10.”
CASSILL (ON WHY HE ENJOYS RACING AT SHORT TRACKS.): “I grew up racing on short tracks, and it’s always kind of been my forte. I’ve done a lot of tough, short-track racing in the Midwest in Wisconsin. It’s fun to go to Memphis and get in the car, where you really have to handle the brakes and race everyone hard.”
CASSILL (ON COMPETING AGAINST BRYAN CLAUSON FOR ROOKIE OF THE YEAR.): “I just need to gain back the Rookie of the Year point lead. What I really need is to get some bonus points by getting a solid top-10 finish at either Memphis or Phoenix. Hopefully I’ll win the rookie title at the end of the season, and that’s the main focus in my final two Nationwide Series races.”
CASSILL (ON HALLOWEEN AS A KID.): “I wasn’t big into Halloween as a kid, but I was Robin Hood one time so that was the coolest one. I need to come up with something good for this year. I always talk about what costume I’m going to wear, and then I never end up doing it. I’m going to have to back it up this year.”
CASSILL (ON WHAT HE PLANS TO BE THIS YEAR.): “A toaster. Actually, I’ve always wanted to be something random like an exclamation point or a question mark. I could wear a big box and make it myself instead of going to the store and buying it. It would be random and funny and people would ask, ‘What is that?’ and I’d be like, ‘I’m an exclamation point, of course.’”
CASSILL (ON VISITING ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN MEMPHIS ON THURSDAY.): “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s pretty cool to go and see the children and put a smile on their faces. A lot of them are NASCAR fans and to go in there and make their day and hopefully be the light in their world for a little bit is what we go there to do. It will be a lot of fun to spend some time with the kids and get to know them.”
