A year ago, Marcos Ambrose used pit strategy to win at Watkins Glen International. The second time around, he used a little aggression.

Ambrose passed series points leader Kyle Busch with a daring move through the chicane Saturday and won the Nationwide Zippo 200 for the second straight year for JTG-Daugherty Racing. Houston Chronicle

Busch fell to third after the incident, but fought off Carl Edwards in the closing laps to finish second. He has now finished first or second for the 10th straight race, surpassing Jack Ingram’s 1983 record of consecutive one- two finishes.

During the cool-down at the conclusion of the race, Busch made a slight nudge on Ambrose’s car to express his displeasure of the Aussie’s move for the lead. MiamiHerald.com

“Here we are in Victory Lane. It’s just awesome. I’ve got so many people to thank.

“I had to surprise him (Kyle Busch). I didn’t have the straight line speed to really attack him. If I had waited for the last 10 laps there is no way he would have let me past so I just tried to surprise him and I surprised myself!

“It was an all-in move and I knew I had to do it then because the element of surprise was there and that’s what got the win for us.

I was worried (at the restarts). You know, it’s Kyle Busch, and he doesn’t give you an inch and I had Carl (Edwards) behind me too and I bumped into him earlier at Turn 1, so I had my hands full.

“But those guys are fair. They race really hard but it’s just awesome.

“Awesome to be alongside them, awesome to compete against them and awesome to beat them.”

Edwards finished third, followed by Kevin Harvick, the pole sitter, and Ron Fellows, a road course ringer.

Busch has now padded his lead to 212 points over Edwards.

Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle, David Ragan, Brad Keselowski and Scott Speed completed the top-10.

Robby Gordon and Joey Logano also had an on-track skirmish late in the race. Gordon leaned into Logano, forcing him to slide off the track and slam into the tire barrier. MiamiHerald.com
