Trevor Bayne was watching, but Matt Kenseth was driving.

Both were able to celebrate a victory on Saturday.

Kenseth, in his only start in the Nationwide Series this season, passed Roush Fenway Racing teammate Carl Edwards with two of 200 laps remaining and won the Top Gear 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Kenseth was a late fill-in for Bayne, who has missed the last month of racing because of an as-yet undiagnosed illness. Bayne is scheduled to return to this No. 16 Ford team next weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. Charlotte Observer

“We had new tires, and I could see [Edwards] fade a little bit at the end of the run,” Kenseth said. “Carl is one of the best out there every Sunday and Saturday, so when you can beat him at the game, you know you’ve had a good day.”

“I got a little bit tight, but Matt raced me really clean,” said Edwards, who led the most laps with 63. “He was kind of messing with me there a little bit. I could tell when he needed to go he took off.” MiamiHerald.com

Fellow Sprint Cup regular Kyle Busch (FSY)  was third, failing to tie Mark Martin (FSY)  (49) for the most wins in the Nationwide Series.

A week after becoming the first non-Sprint Cup driver to win a Nationwide race this season and a day before he makes his Sprint Cup debut, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (FSY)  finished fourth after captured the pole in the morning qualifying.

Reed Sorenson (FSY)  was fifth, while Elliott Sadler (FSY)  recovered from early handling problems to finish 10th and maintain a one-point lead over Stenhouse in the season standings. USA Today

In his Nationwide debut, Kimi Raikkonen fought the handling of his No. 87 Toyota before a pit-road speeding penalty and damage to the front splitter relegated him to a 27th-place finish.

Starting 22nd, the Finland native complained early over his radio of his No. 87 Toyota being too tight. He also wasn’t wearing heat shields on his shoes and said his feet were “burning” on the hot, humid afternoon.

He later complained again about how hot the car was and never was in contention in what could be his final NASCAR race.  NASCAR.com
