This weekend, the NASCAR Nationwide Series gets its chance to shine.

Not this weekend. Saturday, the Nationwide drivers embark on their initial standalone race weekend. Only six Cup drivers are involved in this race as well - the two running the full schedule (Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch and Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards) and four who are giving up their own off weekend for a chance to run on the 1.33-mile Nashville Superspeedway.

It’s a series where young drivers can grab a chance at a one-race deal and run well enough to turn that into a career.

It’s a mixture of racing’s roots and its future, a place where an unknown driver can gain a foothold and eventually go on to a Sprint Cup ride.

It’s a stepping stone to a new life, to glory and acclaim and to the NASCAR dream.
