Reed Sorenson claimed his first Nationwide Series win in nearly four years after prevailing in a very confusing finish in Saturday’s Bucyrus 200 at Road America.

The race featured three green-white-checkered attempts for several wrecks in the closing laps. Sorenson’s Turner Motorsports teammate, Justin Allgaier, held the lead on the final lap, but after the caution flag waved for an incident involving Aric Almirola, Allgaier ran out of fuel and stalled on the lengthy 4.048-mile road course.

Ron Fellows then passed Sorenson, and it appeared at first that Fellows took the lead. But NASCAR reviewed the finish until several minutes after the conclusion of the race. NASCAR determined Fellows moved ahead of Sorenson when the yellow flag was in sight, and therefore, awarded the victory to Sorenson.

It was Sorenson’s fourth career win in the series but his first since July 2007 at Gateway International Raceway. MiamiHerald.com

“I don’t agree with the ruling, but it is what it is,” Fellows said.

NASCAR officials awarded Fellows second, followed by Jacques Villeneuve—who had a late run-in with Max Papis—Elliott Sadler and Mike Wallace.

According to a series spokeswoman, NASCAR officials ruled Fellows passed under caution, a no-no in racing.

“When the caution comes out, you don’t keep racing,” Sorenson said.

But Fellows said he still hadn’t received an explanation.

“We’re still looking for a full interpretation,” Fellows said. “What I’ve heard, I won’t repeat, because it’ll just get me in trouble. I’ll just wait until we actually get an official word on exactly what the deal was.” NASCAR.com

Michael McDowell had the race in hand late when a caution flag came out, setting up a green-white-checkered finish.

Jacques Villeneuve slammed into Max Papis in the first turn on the restart to bring out another caution. On the second green-white-checkered restart, Justin Allgaier got around McDowell, but a multiple-car crash brought out another caution. Kansas City Star

Andrew Ranger, Michael Annett, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Ricky Carmichael and J.R. Fitzpatrick finished sixth through 10th, respectively.
