Marcos Ambrose is primed for the challenge of ‘The Monster Mile’ in both NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition at the Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware this weekend.
The one-mile Dover venue is a tough concrete-surfaced speedway, but Ambrose enjoys the challenge that The Monster Mile presents.
Last season in Nationwide Series competition, Ambrose qualified third and finished sixth in Dover in June. On previous the two visits since, Ambrose has shown similarly strong speed but lacked the luck to crack a top 10 result.
This weekend sees Ambrose pilot the #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion of JTG Daugherty Racing as he continues to push his way up the Nationwide Series standings. Now in ninth place, Ambrose sits just 48 points out of eighth place entering this weekend’s RoadLoans.com 200.
The Australian will also aim to qualify for his sixth Sprint Cup start and his first at Dover in the Camping World RV 400 this weekend, where he will continue to work with crew chief David Hyder and the crew from Wood Brothers Racing to improve the fortunes of the #21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion.
Ambrose will have to qualify for the Cup race on speed this weekend, as the Wood Brothers entry lies outside the top 35 in Sprint Cup Owner’s Points.
He will join Johnny Sauter, Patrick Carpentier, Kyle Petty, Stanton Barrett, Tony Raines, Sam Hornish Jr, Joe Nemechek, AJ Allmendinger, Ken Schrader and the yet-to-be-named driver of the Bob Jenkins-owned #34 entry as 11 drivers going for the eight remaining starting spots.
