Marcos Ambrose will look to make his second Sprint Cup start for JTG Daugherty Racing as he enters another weekend of NASCAR double duty at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City this weekend.

But before that the Australian driver has the opportunity to complete two days of testing at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina as part of the final official Sprint Cup test session for the season, on track.

The 1.5-mile Lowe’s Motor Speedway is located just a few miles from the JTG Daugherty Racing workshop, giving Ambrose and crew chief Frank Kerr the chance to get extra track time ahead of this weekend’s Camping World RV 400 in Kansas.

Last time out, the #47 Little Debbie Ford Fusion of JTG Daugherty Racing had a sensational debut, finishing 22nd in the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Ambrose’s second Sprint Cup start and first on an oval.

Ambrose and his crew ran solidly in the two sessions held at Lowe’s today, trying different set-ups and experimenting with the #47 entry, which is entering just its second Sprint Cup event this weekend in Kansas.

Ambrose will also be running in the #59 Kingsford Tailgate Ford Fusion at Kansas this weekend, making this the first time Ambrose has pulled ‘double duty’ for the same team and at the same venue.

Ambrose is looking for a strong run at Kansas Speedway this weekend, especially in the Nationwide Series Kansas Lottery 300. Ambrose currently lies 10th in the 2008 Nationwide Series standings as he aims to finish in the top 10 in points in that series for the second-consecutive year.

The 32-year-old qualified fourth and finished third at Kansas Speedway in the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and was in a strong position at the speedway one year ago in the Nationwide Series after qualifying 12th, but had his day end with a blown tyre and subsequent contact with the SAFER Barrier.

Ambrose will be one of nine drivers vying for seven available spots in this weekend’s Sprint Cup race, with Michael McDowell, Johnny Sauter, Patrick Carpentier, Kyle Petty, Tony Raines, Sam Hornish Jr, Joe Nemechek and Joey Logano all trying to qualifying on speed.
