Despite a dismal economic outlook for U.S. automakers, Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday extended its support of Roush Fenway Racing’s NASCAR program.
The extension is believed to be a five-year deal.
“Everybody knows that the auto industry in this country is facing some difficult times, but the loyalty and commitment Jack (Roush) and his entire organization have shown us throughout these past few months has been inspiring,” said Brian Wolfe, director of Ford Racing Technology.
Roush has been Ford’s most successful NASCAR partner, winning 110 races and back-to-back Cup championships with Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch in 2003 and 2004.
Team owner Jack Roush assured that Ford has not pulled support from the Cup program.
“Ford has made us a commitment for five years going into the future that we feel is adequate to our needs for the support that comes from manufacturers,” Roush said before Sunday’s race at Martinsville Speedway. Roush has been with Ford since he got into NASCAR in 1988. His organization owns five of the eight Cup teams currently funded by the manufacturer and has an alliance with two more at Yates Racing.
