Before embarking to Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International for this weekend’s Sprint Cup road race at the 2.45-mile circuit, Furniture Row Racing driver Joe Nemechek visited two Colorado tracks near his team’s home base in Denver.

The first stop for Nemechek was a test session at the 2.2-mile, 10-turn road circuit at Pueblo Motorsports Park. After the test, Nemechek headed to Pikes Peak International in Fountain, Colo. to take some laps around the track, which was recently purchased by a private company consisting of motorsports enthusiasts and businessmen.

“Testing at the Pueblo road course gave us good information for Watkins Glen,” said Nemechek. “We tested there before the Sonoma road race and it helped. I like the road courses and am looking forward to having some fun this weekend in our Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet Impala SS.”

Nemechek went on to say that he really enjoyed the one-mile oval at Pikes Peak International and feels if things can be worked out the two Colorado tracks would serve as good testing grounds for the Denver-based team.

“With our shop being based in Denver it sure would be nice to travel a short distance to do some additional testing,” said Nemechek. “The Pikes Peak one-mile oval is in great condition and would be an excellent place to test in advance of some of the ovals we go to on the Sprint Cup circuit.”

While developing the young Furniture Row Racing program is an utmost goal, Nemechek’s short-term focus is on Watkins Glen where he has had past success, including three top 10s in the Cup Series, four top fives and one pole in seven Nationwide races and a pole and a runner-up finish in his only truck race.

“I love the road courses and really like racing at The Glen,” noted Nemechek. “There’s something about that track that gets me pumped. I can’t wait to start making those left and right-hand turns.”
