Budweiser Racing Team Notes of Interest

Kasey Kahne and the No. 9 Budweiser Ford team will honor the 25th anniversary of Darrell Waltrip’s 1985 NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship in the No. 11 Budweiser car by running a special paint scheme in Saturday’s 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway. The No. 9 Budweiser Retro Ford will feature a throwback red and white scheme, designed like the car Waltrip drove to Victory Lane at Richmond on Sept. 8, 1985.

On May 14, 2005, Kahne scored his first-career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win at Richmond International Raceway. The driver of the No. 9 started the race from the pole position and dominated the event, leading on seven occasions for a total of 242 laps.

In 12 starts at the 0.75-mile track, Kahne has racked up two top fives and five top-10 finishes.

Kasey Kahne discusses racing at Richmond and the Budweiser Retro paint scheme:

What are your thoughts on running at Richmond this weekend?
“My first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory came at Richmond, so I always look forward to going back. It is the ideal short track - wide, fast, smooth, very competitive and there’s plenty of room to set up the pass. We’ve had pretty good success there in the past.”

What do you think of the Budweiser Retro paint scheme you’re running at Richmond?
“Darrell is one of the great legends of NASCAR and I’m proud to be a part of the Budweiser family with him. Seeing the paint scheme on track will be a walk down memory lane for NASCAR fans. The entire No. 9 team hopes to get the Budweiser Ford to Victory Lane at Richmond, just like Darrell did 25 years ago.”
