Marcos Ambrose heads into the penultimate round of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway seeking an improvement on last weekend’s 12th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway.
After leading consecutive races at Martinsville and Talladega, the Texas result demonstrates that the JTG Daugherty Racing crew is keen to finish the season on a high.
“Texas was a good day for us, and if we had a few more laps we would have finished in the top-ten,” Marcos Ambrose said.
“It was fun, the pit stops were solid, and the team did a good job.”
Phoenix has proven to be a happy hunting ground for Ambrose in recent visits, with his last two starts at the venue resulting in 11th place finishes.
At the Phoenix race held in April this year Ambrose qualified fourth, while a big points haul on Sunday will help close the championship points gap on 25th placed Brad Keselowski.
Ambrose’s Toyota Camry will this weekend wear the colours of Little Debbie, with support from supermarket chain Safeway.
“I really like Phoenix International Raceway, it’s a one-mile long flat-track, and there’s a lot of room to race,” Ambrose said.
“Apart from being flat, it’s slick and bumpy, all of the corners on the track are unique.
“It’s just a fun track to race on in general, and the weather this time of year in Arizona is really comfortable.
“We’re looking to break into the top-ten this weekend; we’ve been close the last two times out.”
Following on from Phoenix, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series makes the long trek back across the United States of America to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the season finale.
After a remarkable race at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend, Denny Hamlin heads to Phoenix holding down a 33 point advantage over four time champion Jimmie Johnson, with a total of 370 points still up for grabs.
