Martin Truex finished 17th in Sunday’s LifeLock 400, a race that saw the Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver battle an ill-handling racecar for the majority of the event’s 200 laps.
Truex had higher hopes for the event at Michigan International Speedway, especially after having the 10th-fastest time in final practice on Saturday.
“Our car was good in Happy Hour, but we were just too loose during the race,” Truex said. “The car would be good for the first couple of laps after a restart but then the handling would go away.”
Even with the handling issues on the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet, Truex was in the 11th position when the green flag fell on a green-white-checkered finish. Unfortunately, he was slowed by a car in front of him that was running out of gas.
“We got hurt on that last restart, but that was just the way our day had gone,” continued Truex. “I’m sure the guys will go back to the shop and work on these cars and make us better for next week.”
Truex is 15th in 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup driver points, 94 points out of 12th.
