As the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen, N.Y. for Sunday’s Centurion Boats at The Glen, Martin Truex Jr. looks forward to the speed of the 2.45-road course.
“Even though it’s a road course, there are some places where you can really drop the hammer,” Truex said. “The backstraight is a perfect example: you come flying down through there and hit the inner loop. After that, you get right back on the gas and head for the “S” turns. You’re carrying a lot of speed through almost every corner.”
Truex is currently 17th in Sprint Cup Series points, 248 points out of the final transfer spot to make the 2008 Chase. The Mayetta, N.J. native realizes that time is running out to make NASCAR’s “playoffs”.
“If we’re going to make a move, it has to start this weekend,” continued Truex. “We’ve got five more races before the Chase starts so we can’t afford to finish outside the top five in any of those races. Even then, it’s going to be a long shot so we might as well go for broke.”
