Martin Truex Jr. finished 16th in Sunday’s 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Truex, who finished fifth in last week’s race at Watkins Glen, had hoped for back-to-back top-10 efforts, but in the end the Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver settled for the top-20 finish.
“We struggled at times this weekend,” said Truex. “We’ve had some strong runs here in the past, and we were hoping for a good finish here today. We just were not able to find any front grip with the car and if you don’t get the setup right with this car here at Michigan, you can be in for a long day.
“They guys never gave up and we tired a bunch of different stuff, but the car just never seemed to respond like we thought it would. We’ll put this one behind us and look for a strong effort next weekend at Bristol.”
Truex remained 16th in NASCAR Sprint Cup points, 201 points out of the 12th position and the cutoff point for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
“I know the guys on this No. 1 Bass Pro Team are trying their hardest,” added Truex. “I appreciate their effort, and we’ll just keep digging and see what happens.”
