Juan Pablo Montoya was the class of the field as he drove his No. 42 Target Chevrolet to victory lane in the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen. It is Montoya’s second career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) victory in 131 starts, both coming on the two road courses in the Series’ schedule.
Starting third in the 43-car field, Montoya led four times for a total of 74 of the 90 laps in today’s race at Watkins Glen International. The only time he wasn’t score the leader was during pit-stop cycles. He jumps two positions in the points to 19th position.
Montoya’s Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing teammate, Jamie McMurray, No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet, finished sixth today after starting second. He sits 15th in the standings, 84 points out of the top-12 point positions with four races remaining until the start of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Kurt Busch (Dodge), Marcos Ambrose (Toyota), A.J. Allmendinger (Ford) and Carl Edwards (Ford) completed the top-five finishers.
Tony Stewart, No. 14 Old Spice/Office Depot Chevrolet, finished seventh and remains eighth in the standings. It was the 12th top-10 finish of the season for the two-time NSCS champion driving his own Stewart-Hass Racing Chevrolet.
Jeff Gordon, No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, finished 10th to give Team Chevy five of the top-10 finishers. The four-time NSCS Hendrick Motorsports driver is second in the standings.
Kevin Harvick, No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet, remains the points leader holding a 185 point lead. A flat tire in the closing stages of the race dropped him down from garnering another top-10 finish as he held on to finish in 11th place.
