Kurt Busch conserved enough fuel to win Sunday’s Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, while Jimmie Johnson crashed in the opening laps and saw his points lead drastically reduced with just two races remaining in the “Chase for the Sprint Cup” championship.
Busch inherited the lead when his younger brother, Kyle, ran out of fuel with less than three laps remaining. Both drivers last pitted with under 65 laps remaining. MiamiHerald.com
“It was quite a bit of fun,” Kurt said of running neck and neck with Kyle. “I felt it early on in the way each of us would beat each other out of the pits and play cat and mouse on the restarts. To have him going for the sweep of the weekend, I was rooting for him. But it’s bittersweet because we took the sweet part.”
Denny Hamlin finished second and Matt Kenseth, who started in 30th, placed third. Fort Worth Star Telegram
