Kyle Busch can’t be beat at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Busch won the Sprint Cup on Sunday to complete a weekend sweep at the Tennessee bullring. He also won the second-tier Nationwide Series race on Saturday, and has won the last five races at Bristol dating back to a three-race sweep last August.
It was Busch’s fifth career Cup victory at Bristol — tying him with his older brother, Kurt, who also has five Bristol victories. The Associated Press
Any Bristol victor must have a stout car and a solid pit crew, but Busch succinctly described the balance it takes a racer to be consistently successful.
“You have to be patient sometimes, and sometimes you have to go for it,” Busch said.
And he has learned to temper that drive.
“It was a lot harder today, that’s for sure,” Busch said. “Carl kept me honest there. I was making a couple mistakes, but nothing we couldn’t rebound from . . . There’s a couple lapped cars that kind of held me up a little bit, and I just kind of gave way. Too early in the race to push the issue. I let Jimmie take the lead (on Lap 341).
“Our guys on that last pit stop won this race coming out of the pits first. I don’t know if I could have gotten by Carl — Carl was good. Our car was definitely better on the longer run. We kind of stretched it out a little bit there. I was worried that Jimmie might get by him and come frazzle me for a little while. I felt good about these guys and what they did. Dave Rogers (crew chief) — awesome job.” FOXSports.com
