Tony Stewart won his fourth race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship with a dominating performance in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Stewart led 173 of 334 laps but had to come from behind in the closing laps to grab the win. Jeff Burton held the lead late in the race when he opted not to pit during the final round of stops, but Burton ran out of fuel with five laps to go, allowing Stewart to take the top spot for good.

After leading 173 circuits, the most laps in the race, and winning the AAA Texas 500, Stewart’s magic number dropped to three points.

There are now just two stops remaining on the 36-race schedule, Phoenix, AZ and Homestead, FL, and Stewart continues to come on strong.

It was a challenging day for championship contender Kevin Harvick in the No. 29 Rheem Chevrolet, but a hard-fought 13th place race finish was enough to maintain third in the order behind Stewart and Edwards. Harvick sits just 33 points shy of the lead.
