Clint Bowyer made a strong statement that he is a contender in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup with a dominating win in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS).  Behind the wheel of the bright yellow No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet, Bowyer led seven times for 177 of the 300 laps in today’s race.

Coming into the NHMS race, the Richard Childress Racing driver was the 12th seed in the final field competing tor the Series’ championship.  He is now second in the standings, just 35 points out of the lead, following the first of the 10-race Chase.

Hamlin, the points leader, was spun by Carl Edwards on a mid-race restart and rallied from 22nd to finish second. Harvick, the points leader for most of the “regular season,” struggled through a series of bad pit stops to fall as low as 18th before finishing fifth.

Johnson was derailed by a loose right wheel late in the race to finish 25th, the lowest of the Chase drivers

Kevin Harvick remains third in the Chase standings with his fifth place finish behind the wheel of the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet.

Jeff Gordon, No. 24 DuPont/National Guard Facebook Chevrolet, finished sixth and moved to fifth in points with nine races remaining in the season. Gordon is contending for his fifth NSCS championship.
