Winless for almost a year and seeded a distant ninth in the 12-driver Chase field, few considered the driver from Vancouver, Wash., a serious contender. But “The Biff” never counted himself out, believing a strong run Sunday in the Chase opener at New Hampshire Motor Speedway would put him in position to race for the Sprint Cup title.
Biffle passed Jimmie Johnson on Lap 289 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and held on for the victory, the 13th of his career and his first since winning at Kansas Speedway in the third race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup last year.
“We’re going to give it all we have,” Biffle said. “We’re going to go out and make a big impact. We’ll make a good run at it, I can promise you that. I knew that we would.
“I didn’t have any wins but I wasn’t going to allow that to affect my mindset. I had the mindset that I had to put down the best 10 races of my life. That’s what I have to do to win the championship. That’s what I did when I walked out to the car this morning — to do the best I can do for 10 weeks.”
