Sam Hornish Jr. and Jamie McMurray finished first and second in Saturday’s Sprint Showdown at Lowe’s Motor Speedway to earn the two transfer positions into the Sprint All-Star Race.
David Stremme, Hornish’s teammate at Penske Racing, had his No. 12 Dodge in the lead after the first of two 20-lap segments but faded to third after McMurray passed him for the runner-up spot on Lap 27 of 40 at the 1.5-mile speedway.

“It’s my first time to win in a stock car, and I’m really happy about that,” said Hornish, who joined Tony Stewart, Sterling Marlin, Michael Waltrip, Martin Truex Jr. and A.J. Allmendinger to score his first NASCAR victory in the exhibition race. “That definitely feels good, and we’ll keep hungry, to get a win on a regular points weekend.”
After a dismal rookie season in the No. 77 Dodge, Hornish has notched the first two top 10s of his career in the past four races.
“I’ve seen it coming for a long time,” he said. USA Today
