As Joe Nemechek heads to another 2.5-mile track at Pocono Raceway, the Furniture Row Racing driver is looking for a turnaround.
“Yes, the tire fiasco was one thing at Indy, but we still should have had a better performance and result in our Chevrolet Impala SS,” offered Nemechek, who finished 29th at the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. “We like the big tracks and that’s why I am happy about having another opportunity at a 2.5 miler this weekend.”
Nemechek and the Denver, Colo.-based Furniture Row Racing team will seek redemption at the Pennsylvania track where Nemechek qualified his No. 78 Chevrolet fifth in the June Pocono race.
“We have a good handle on what needs to get done at Pocono,” said Nemechek. “We tested there and had a great qualifying effort at the June event. We were also pretty good in the race too. Had it not been for a damaged splitter, we were in position for a solid finish.”
With only 19 laps remaining in the Pocono June race, Nemechek was running in 11th place. But while driving a semi-crippled car, he scraped the wall and slid to the back of the field.
“As was the case last week in Indy, the first Pocono race was also very frustrating,” noted Nemechek. “But we get another chance to show our stuff and I have a good feeling that it’s going to play in our favor this time. I’m a believer that as long as we work hard and remain positive, good things will happen. We do have the potential with this Furniture Row Racing team.”
