Busch has dominated NASCAR racing this year, and leads the Sprint Cup standings with seven victories. His lead over second-place Earnhardt Jr. is a comfortable 262 points.
While he has run strong at Indy in the past, he has yet to join the hallowed group of Cup winners there: Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Ricky Rudd and Kevin Harvick. Only the latter two are not also Cup champions.
Busch has run well at Indy in the past, but faces stiff competition. Indiana native Stewart has won the 400 twice, and would love nothing better than to win for the first time in 2008 at the track. The same is true for four-time winner Gordon, who grew up in Indiana. Another Hoosier, Ryan Newman, has yet to win at Indy.
No driver outside the Top 10 in points has won at the fabled track in NASCAR. Two drivers outside the Top 10, Juan Pablo Montoya and Sam Hornish Jr., have won the Indianpolis 500. Montoya may be one of the drivers to watch as he was among the leaders all race last year in his rookie season and finished fourth.
