Less than a month ago, not even Kasey saw this coming.
“[Our] cars aren’t where they need to be to go fast,” he confessed back then.
But a day later the fans voted him into the May 17 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and suddenly he was afire.
He not only won that non-points event, but on May 25 he won the Coca-Cola 600 and this Sunday he won the Pocono 500. Those successes catapulted him into ninth place behind Busch and now he arrives at a track where he has had a victory in 2006 and four top-five finishes.
“Momentum is so big in this sport,” he says when asked about his roll. “To win at a track like Pocono says a lot. … The excitement, the confidence and everything—you go to Gillett Evernham right now and everybody is walking around there with a smile on their faces. That’s not how it was a month and a half ago. … I’m just glad I can be part of it.
“Michigan always has been a strong track for us and we’re looking forward to keeping the momentum going. Everything is clicking for this team right now.”
