The No. 34 Long John Silver’s team driven by Travis Kvapil is rested from a weekend off and now is ready to tackle the .533-mile Bristol Motor Speedway.

Kvapil is hoping to improve on his 32nd spot in driver standings and move into the top-30 and continue his climb forward.  The team is also looking to better its season-best finish of 24th earlier this year at Las Vegas.

Kvapil will be making his eighth start at Bristol in Sprint Cup competition.  He has a best finish of seventh in this race in 2005. Kvapil also has one win at the track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Comments from Long John Silver’s Racing team driver Travis Kvapil on his First Impressions of Bristol:

“The first time I went to Bristol was in 2003 for a truck race.  I got there, and it was pretty intimidating at first.  I had never run a half-mile track with the banking that Bristol has.  The seating capacity is amazing and it really makes the whole atmosphere crazy.  You just can’t explain it.

“You watch it on TV and see 43 guys piled on top of each other with nowhere to go.  You then get the call to go there and race, and it’s a big ‘wow’ factor.  You have to put your mind in the right place because you know it’s going to get wild.  It’s like nothing else.

“Just crossing the track and seeing all that concrete.  It was all new to me.  I didn’t know what to expect. I went from being intimidated and nervous making my first laps there to winning the truck race that night.  You don’t go from intimidation to elation very often in life, but that was the case that night.  It’s unique because I was nervous, but because I ended up winning my first time there it’s now one of my favorite tracks.

“I didn’t go talk to anyone before I got there.  Growing up and racing the short tracks in Wisconsin helped me be prepared for the size of the track.  I just approached it like another short track.  There is only about one-and-a-half preferred grooves when you’re racing.  It just took a few laps to get used to the speed and how the banking holds you down.  I just learned a lot on my own.

“I guess I did something right that first time cause I ended up winning.  I’ve had some good runs in the Cup car, too.  I know we can get it done this weekend.  We are capable of really having a good outcome if we can stay out of trouble all afternoon.  I’m looking forward to it.”
