INDIANAPOLIS – Martin Truex Jr. finished 24th in Brickyard 400, a race dominated by tire wear. NASCAR mandated six competition caution periods so teams could come in and check their tires.
“We had the same issues most of the other guys had, ” Truex said. “The right side tires would wear out after about 10 laps. There were times out there when you just hanging on, hoping your right-rear tire wouldn’t blow. It’s frustrating when you can only go 10 laps and have to start worrying about the tires.”
The race was Truex’s first with interim crew chief Mike Greci, and he applauded Greci’s efforts during the 160-lap event.
“Mike did a really good job this weekend,” continued Truex. “He and all the guys worked hard and we had the car pretty good during the race. I wish we could have gotten a better finish, but it’s just tough when you’re racing for only 10 or 12 laps at a time.”
“We’ll just have to put this behind us and get ready for Pocono.”
Truex is 17th in 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup driver points, 216 points out of 12th.
