THOMPSON, Conn. – Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver Trevor Bayne scored his first career victory in the Camping World East Series Saturday night in the Pepsi Full Fender Frenzy 100 at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Conn. Bayne led three Dale Earnhardt Inc. drivers in the top five in the race, with teammates Jesus Hernandez finishing second and Jeffrey Earnhardt coming in eighth.
“This was a great weekend,” said Bayne. “We got our first pole and our first win. I’d like to thank Jesus for running me clean. We ran each other hard and clean. It’s a great run for DEI, to have all three cars in the top five and up front battling for the win. It was just a great team effort. These guys give me great cars every weekend. I’m glad it finally paid off to give us a win here.”
Bayne, who also collected his first career series pole earlier in the day, passed Hernandez on lap 98 for the lead and held off his teammate for his first career series win.
“It really was a great effort by everyone at Dale Earnhardt Inc,” added Hernandez. “Obviously you want to win, but it’s a great feeling to be up there having a clean battle with your teammate for the victory. I think it says a lot about our program at Dale Earnhardt Inc.”
Earnhardt shared in his teammate’s joy.
“I couldn’t be happier for Trevor and his guys,” said Earnhardt. “They’ve been working hard all year and really deserved it. It just shows how strong the program is at DEI. Jesus and I will have to win one now - we can’t let Trevor have all the fun.”
