Trois-Rivières, Quebec – Considering he was spun out, had a flat tire, and was penalized a lap, Kerry Micks put on an admirable showing by placing ninth in Grand-Prix de Trois-Rivières, race nine in the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.
“The car was good,” said Micks, of Mount Albert, Ontario, and driver of the Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion. “I know we had the fastest car there. It was just bad luck. I’m pleased with everything, considering the day we had.”
Micks, who won this event in 2007, qualified a solid second in the 28-car field, but right from the start of the 46-lap race he had trouble. He was spun into the tire barrier early in the race, and while getting back into the action had a tire go flat. He got back into the lead lap as the recipient of NASCAR’s “Lucky Dog” award which gives a lap-down driver a chance to get back on the lead lap.
After chasing down some of his competitors and running up in eighth, Micks was penalized for jumping the restart after a caution period, but also overcame this setback to remain in the top ten for the remainder of the race.
With his finish, Micks retains his fifth sport in the points race for 2008.
“It was quite the day,” he added. “It was just one of those deals.”
Micks and the Beyond Digital Imaging Ford will return to Cayuga Speedway August 30 for the Coke Zero 200, the next race on the schedule.
