Following are Don Schumacher Racing statistics and other news items in advance of this weekend’s NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, the sixth of 24 events in the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, and following the last event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway:
* Don Schumacher Racing scored the team’s overall 127th national-event victory since 1998 in Las Vegas when Ron Capps (NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge) won Funny Car and Tony Schumacher (U.S. Army TF Dragster) won Top Fuel.
* The double Las Vegas win for Schumacher and Capps earned DSR its 21st double victory since DSR became a multi-car team in 2001. This number also includes two triple victories
* In Vegas, Schumacher won his second straight national event of the year; Ron Capps his third of the first five
* Schumacher’s win marked his 31st straight race without a first-round loss, a Top Fuel class record
* Capps’ Vegas victory also marked his and crew chief Ed “Ace” McCulloch’s 20th national-event victory for the driver/tuner duo (14 with DSR, six with Don Prudhomme Racing)
* Only DSR drivers beat other DSR drivers in Las Vegas in both Top Fuel and Funny Car eliminations rounds en route to their respective final rounds
* With rookie Matt Hagan’s Funny Car runner-up finish to DSR teammate Capps in Las Vegas, Hagan (Shelor.com Dodge) moved into second in points, making it 1-2 in the Funny Car rankings for DSR
* DSR teams lead the point standings in each of the three NHRA categories in which they compete: Tony Schumacher in Top Fuel, Ron Capps in Funny Car, Matt Smith (Nitro Fish Suzuki) in Pro Stock Motorcycle
* Other DSR team members and their class positions.
