Rod Fuller on Englishtown

“Englishtown is always an exciting race. We won there a few years ago and it’s a great race to win. We have H.O. Penn on the car this weekend and we always want to do well for our CAT dealers. Hopefully we can follow-up our good performance at Joliet with another solid race.”

Rob Flynn (crew chief) on Englishtown

“We’re looking forward to a new Caterpillar dealer with H.O. Penn on board. We won that race two years ago with Hot Rod (Fuller) and did well there last year in qualifying and we hope to continue that this season.”

Two weeks ago in Joliet, Ill., Fuller made his 75th Top Fuel start. The Las Vegas racer qualified 10th in front of a large Caterpillar cheering section. He raced to his 16th career professional final round where he posted a runner-up finish to five-time series champion Tony Schumacher. It was Fuller’s second final round appearance of the season and third career final at the Chicago race. He is now 7/9 in 16 career final rounds.

Fuller enters the 11th race on the 2008 NHRA schedule ranked fifth in the Top Fuel standings. He has one win this season, St. Louis, where he defeated Tony Schumacher in the final round at Gateway International Raceway. He has a round record of 13-9 in 10 races this year.

Last June at Raceway Park, Fuller qualified his David Powers-owned dragster second with a blast of 4.479 seconds at 330.39 mph. He advanced to the second round of eliminations where he fell to Hillary Will. Fuller scored his third career Top Fuel victory when he defeated Larry Dixon in the final round at Raceway Park in 2006, 4.692 to 4.825.

Fuller has qualified for 71 consecutive NHRA Top Fuel events. The last time he failed to make the cut was at the Houston race in 1996 when he was driving the Montana Express dragster on a part time schedule. Fuller has the second longest qualifying streak in Top Fuel (Tony Schumacher) and has an average starting position of 3.5 in two races at Raceway Park. He has an average qualifying position of 7.6 this season.

Fuller has 13 career NHRA sportsmen victories in the Super Comp (seven) and Super Gas (six) categories. He has 20 career NHRA national event victories, seven coming in Top Fuel.
