NHRA

Hot Rod Fuller on Pomona

“We want to win, plain and simple. We ran great at (Las) Vegas and we need to duplicate that this weekend. The championship is over, but there’s no reason why we can’t win this race.”

Rob Flynn (crew chief) on Pomona

“The goal is to continue our performance from Las Vegas and end the season on a high note. We feel the car is running very well. And we want to put on a good show for our two CAT dealers from Australia.”

Two weeks ago in Las Vegas, Fuller raced to his third final round appearance of the 2008 NHRA season. Flying the colors of Caterpillar’s Undercarriage division, the seven-time Top Fuel winner qualified third at 3.816-seconds. He raced to the final round where he lost at close race to six-time series champion Tony Schumacher, 3.806 to 3.821. Fuller also clocked his quickest and fastest 1,000-foot passes at 3.813 seconds and 318.39 mph.

Fuller, a seven-time Top Fuel winner, earned his seventh career professional win by defeating five-time series champion Tony Schumacher in the final round of the St. Louis race in May, 4.525 to 4.583. Fuller also earned his seventh career pole this season by qualifying first at the Norwalk, Ohio, race at 4.629-seconds. The Caterpillar car has recorded low E.T. of the meet three times and top speed of the meet twice this year.

Fuller qualified his Caterpillar dragster in the No. 10 position at the 2008 NHRA season-opener at Pomona (4.539, 327.51). Fuller’s rail clocked low elapsed time of the meet at 4.494 seconds and advanced to the quarterfinals. The highest Fuller has qualified in eight races at the historic Pomona track was second at the 2007 Winternationals at 4.481 seconds at 327.27 mph.

Fuller has qualified for 84 consecutive NHRA Top Fuel events. The last time he failed to make the cut was at the Houston race in 1996. Fuller has the second longest qualifying streak in Top Fuel (Tony Schumacher). He has an average qualifying position of 7.43 in 23 races this season.

Fuller has 13 career NHRA sportsmen victories in the Super Comp (seven) and Super Gas (six) categories. He has 20 career NHRA national event victories, seven coming in Top Fuel.

Fuller’s dragster will be flying the colors of Australian Caterpillar dealers Westrac and Hastings-Deering during the Auto Club Finals.
