DENVER—Justin Humphreys made the most of his second qualifying run at Bandimere Speedway as the Mile-High Nationals got underway. The 7.085-second elapsed time at 193.43 mph put him ninth in the provisional Pro Stock starting line-up.
After getting a feel for what to expect with its first quarter-mile lap of 7.173 seconds, the RaceRedi Dodge team dialed in the tune-up as the conditions improved.
“That 7.08 run was pretty good,” said Humphreys. “Denver is a tough place to race, but we’ll get this combination figured out. We have no data up here for this car and Mark Ingersoll (crew chief on Allen Johnson’s Dodge) has been helping us. He definitely knows what he’s doing.” Johnson was the No. 1 qualifier at 7.037 seconds at 195.17 mph.
Humphreys was one of eight drivers to stop the timer in the 7.08 seconds.
Two qualifying runs are scheduled Saturday to set the 16-car field for Sunday’s event. “We should be OK,” said Humphreys.
