Q: Ford, like General Motors and Chrysler, faces colossal challenges. It’s tough for everyone, including dealers and race teams, out there.
Bob Tasca III: I recently spoke to an economics class at Providence College in Rhode Island. I told them I was bullish on Ford’s products. Yes, it’s extremely challenging times, but I said to the class I had a lot of confidence in Ford. Hopefully, we are close to the bottom. As a car salesman, you look at it this way: We have the best possible products right now at a most challenging time. There’s opportunity.
Q: Why do you really race—apart from the marketing and promotional advantages?
Bob Tasca III: If you can’t live a dream, why is life worth living? I love the adrenaline rush, the competition ... the blast of running 300 m.p.h. When I hit the gas, I know this is what I want to do.
Q: You got your first Funny Car victory in the Gatornationals at Gainesville. You’re a NHRA winner now.
Bob Tasca III: It was very emotional, but you can go from hero to zero just as fast. We enjoyed it, but we move on.
