INDIANAPOLIS – J. R. Todd will take his Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment Top Fuel dragster into at the prestigious Mac Tools U. S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park with only one thing on his mind – to win!
“Indy is always a tough race, it’s a tough race just to qualify,” said a relieved Todd, who posted his best time of the weekend with his pass of 3.873 seconds, 309.57 mph in occupying the No. 5 starting position.”
“We’ve had our difficulties on our recent runs of just getting down the track, but tomorrow is a new day. It’s the ‘Big Go’ and we need to come out swinging every round and Doug Kalitta is a tough one to beat right off the bat. Now we just need to take it round-by-round and be sitting strong at the end of the day tomorrow.”
In overall head-to-head races against Kalitta, Todd holds the edge with a 3-2 win/loss ratio with their last meeting being only weeks ago in the quarterfinals in Brainerd, Minn.
With this being NHRA Drag Racing’s esteemed event, it also has the largest purse of $75,000 to the winner. For Todd, it’s all about the winning the race and nothing else.
“You know, I’m not worried about the payday, I just want the trophy,” said a determined Todd.
