NORWALK, Oh. – J. R. Todd, driver of the Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment Top Fuel dragster, advanced to the quarterfinals at the Summit Motorsports Park for the second annual running of the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals after being defeated by Cory McClenathan.
Todd managed a time of 5.048 seconds, 238.13 mph to Cory Mac’s quicker time of 4.638 seconds, 305.77 mph after Todd’s engine began dropping cylinders.
He won his first round race against Hillary Will when he swapped the lead at least three times in just a matter of moments against her in the quarter-mile distance crossing the finish line first after running a time of 4.876 seconds, 299.13 mph to her tire-spinning woes of 5.278 seconds, 215.89 mph.
“It was good to win a round today, ” said a smiling Todd. “Cory Mac’s team has proven to be a strong team this year and we gave it our best, but came up just short when we started losing power. It gives us incentive to keep working hard and improving for Denver. ”
He entered the race from the No. 10 position with a qualifying time of 4.771 seconds, 297.94 mph.
Todd did move up a spot in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings to the No. 12 position with 428 points with only six races to go before the Countdown to the Championship begins at the new Charlotte dragstrip.
