Pro Stock championship points leader Kurt Johnson had a solid first day of qualifying at the O’Reilly Fall Nationals, making two competitive runs with his 6.646-second, 207.72 mph best during his evening attempt slotting him in the seventh position. However, realizing that every point is crucial during the NHRA’s playoff season, he immediately turned his attention towards further improving his standing during one of Saturday’s final two sessions.
“We got after our ACDelco Cobalt tonight, but we obviously need to step on it a little more. For some reason, the car is bouncing around. I haven’t had time to completely analyze the data but it definitely needs improvement. When you’re eighth best to the eighth-mile mark, and sixth-best at the quarter-mile, it’s obvious we have some power to work with. The good news is that we can see the areas we need to work on, and we know how to fix them. Tomorrow morning should be a good hit, and we plan to take advantage of it.”
