It’s been a grand weekend at the O’Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals for the Lucas Oil Stabilizer Top Fuel team with 24-year old Morgan Lucas at the wheel despite qualifying in the No. 16 starting position with his time of 3.967 seconds, 292.52 mph. He feels the success of the team’s ability to negotiate the hot weather at the Texas Motorplex has helped him to reach the reliability that he’s long been in search of is maybe finally coming to fruition.
Lucas will race No. 1 qualifier, Larry Dixon in the opening round of eliminations and in the past, he has proven to be the downfall of numerous No. 1 qualifiers in recent races. In overall match ups, Lucas’ record against Dixon is 3-6 with their last meeting being the quarterfinals at the Mile-High Nationals back in July.
“The cars went down the track every run this weekend,” said a proud Lucas. “On our Friday night run, the car was on a tear until it broke the rocker arm. We lost the run, but up until that point, it was trying to run a 3.84 and that’s hurts. It sets you back a lot especially since we were trying to get into the race fighting the sun on Saturday. Larry Dixon – a friend, a competitor and in the race, may the best man win. You know, that’s just the way it is.”
