Antron Brown, a two-time winner at Route 66 Raceway, raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 14 qualifying position Friday evening at Route 66 Raceway near Chicago.
Afternoon and evening rain showers caused a major delay in the racing action.
With just one try at the track, Brown’s Matco Tools rail, which features a special paint scheme dedicated to Matco’s top distributor John Wolfe, lost traction and slowed to a lap of 6.847 seconds at 91.58 mph. That placed Brown 14th in the 16-car order.
“It was a long day today here at Joliet,” Brown said.
“Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow and we’ll have a good day and make two solid runs. We want to put on a good show for John (Wolfe) and all his guests and all our Matco Tools distributors.”
Professional nitro qualifying will continue on Saturday with qualifying sessions scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m. (CT) at Route 66 Raceway. Top Fuel will run first followed by Funny Car. Brown is a two-time Pro Stock Motorcycle winner at the Chicagoland track. He earned the pole last season at 3.826-seconds.
