Fresh off their win last weekend at the Winternationals, Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team arrived at Firebird Raceway determined to continue their winning ways at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. They got off a good start, posting a 6.567-second, 210.44 mph on their opening attempt, which proved to be their run of record after Anderson was forced to shut off early in the evening session.
Sitting in the fourth position midway through qualifying, Anderson looked to better his standing during one of his final two attempts on Saturday, with close attention paid to the morning session when temperatures will be cooler and more conducive to better times.
“I certainly didn’t burn a lot of gas on that second run,” joked Anderson.
“We were a little off on the set-up, and I ended up having to abort the run. We’re going to forget about that one since we had a decent run in the first session that we can tune from. Besides, we can also lean on the information we can get from Jason’s (teammate Line, who is the provisional No. 1 qualifier), and Ronnie’s (teammate Humphrey, who currently sits 3rd) as they made decent passes, giving us something to build on.
“The one thing I will have is the first shot at the racetrack, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because the temperatures will be cooler. I’m going to look at this with a positive attitude, believing we’re going out first and putting our Summit Racing Pontiac on the pole.”
