The NHRA’s Pro Stock division put on a tremendous display during the first day of qualifying at the NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, N.J., with the top six cars at the end of the day separated by only seven thousandths of a second.
Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team were among those at the top of the 20-car field, with their 6.517-second pass in the evening session matching teammate Jason Line’s effort as the fifth quickest.
Although Line was awarded the fifth position on the top-speed tiebreaker, with his 212.19 speed narrowly edging Anderson’s 212.06-mph mark, the defending champion was still pleased with his opening day performance, as the results showed the KB Racing crew was making progress with his race car.
“This Summit Racing team got off to a pretty good start today,” said Anderson.
“We’ve definitely made some gains with my car over the last few races, and even though we’re not 100 per cent where we need to be, our performance shows we’re a whole lot closer. Best of all, I feel that we can get better as the weekend goes along, so we’re going to keep digging. We’ve established a solid foundation that we just need to build on, so we’ll take what we learned today and move forward.”
