Greg Stanfield celebrated the team’s return to sea-level racing conditions Saturday morning with a qualifying run of 6.566 seconds at 209.49 mph that put him in fourth place for Sunday’s FRAM/Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway.
It is the best Pro Stock starting slot of the season for the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP team.
“We had a good combination and it went the 6.566,”said a satisfied Stanfield, who struggled a week ago in Denver.
“We were able to do some testing in the last session. We need to find some answers about the new stuff.”
“We knew the test wouldn’t hurt our (qualifying) position,” added crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia, “and we did learn some things.”
Stanfield’s first-round foe is Ron Krisher (No. 13, 6.597 at 210.01).
