After posting the eighth-best time during the first day of qualifying at the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, NV, Pro Stock points leader Jason Line chalked his performance up as a learning experience, with his Summit Racing team working to find the right set-up for the unseasonably hot conditions.
On Saturday, the crew showed they had learned their lessons well, posting the second-quickest time of the weekend at 6.707-seconds with a top speed of 205.47 mph to claim the second starting position for Sunday’s final eliminations at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Despite this impressive showing, Line acknowledged there was further information to be gathered and further changes to be made.
“Today was certainly better than yesterday, but we still have some work to do on our Summit Racing Pontiacs,” said Line. “I had a decent run in the morning session, which allowed us to try something in the afternoon in case we could use it tomorrow, and we just got a little over center. Still, all in all it was a good day.
“We learned some things, and even went a little outside of the box, giving us information that should show up tomorrow. Every now and then you have to relearn something which is part of what we did today, which is good. The bottom line is that we should have a good car for tomorrow.
“The track has certainly been a challenge, but there’s nothing wrong with it – it’s just hotter than normal for this time of year, and that is supposed to change tomorrow. Besides, tracks are like people in that they have their own unique personality, and this weekend, it has just taken us a little time to get to know what this one likes. In any case, we should be fine, and I’m certainly going to do whatever I can to be the one getting the trophy from the folks at Summit tomorrow night.”
