Summit Racing driver Jason Line completed another strong qualifying effort on Saturday capturing the second starting spot for Sunday’s final eliminations of the NHRA Arizona Nationals in Phoenix, AZ.
In three of the four sessions at Firebird Raceway, Line was the quickest among the 18 drivers attempting to make the field, culminating with his 6.539-second, 211.10 mph best on his final run, which came within three-thousandths of a second of the top spot.
Despite this impressive performance, Line felt there was still room for further improvement with his race car, which he and the KB Racing team will look to extract for race day.
“Looking at the time sheets, it may not seem like it, but we still have a way to go with this Summit Racing Pontiac,” said Line.
“We’re not making what we consider good runs right now, but it’s still fast, so we’ll keep working on dialing it in. This does make it more of a challenge for me as the driver to make sure to get the most out of every run.
“It would have been nice to get the pole, but it shook the tires and didn’t make a good move in the morning session when the conditions were the best. Still, it’s all good - we should have a good race car for tomorrow, and if we execute properly, we should be in contention for the win, which is all you can ask. We’re looking for a good day in the desert.”
