Over the past seven races, Jason Line and the Summit Racing team have been the picture of consistency on Friday and Saturday, qualifying no worse than fourth with pole positions in Charlotte and Englishtown. Therefore, they entered Friday’s opening sessions of the NHRA Ford Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn. determined to continue their string of strong performances.
Line opened with a solid 6.717-second, 205.66 mph in the afternoon session, which eventually placed him in the provisional fifth position with two attempts remaining on Saturday. Even so, the 2006 champion was far from pleased, believing there was room for improvement both in his race car and the racing surface.
“Our first run was certainly not what we were looking for, and unfortunately we were thrown a bit of a curve in the evening session when they changed the track prep at the last minute,” said Line. “As a result, the changes we had made based on the afternoon run were not suited to the conditions we encountered and actually took us in the wrong direction.
“The good news is that we have two more attempts tomorrow to try and match our Summit Racing Pontiac to whatever the track conditions may be. The bottom line is that it’s the same for everyone out there, so we need to regroup and do a better job tomorrow, putting ourselves in a better position for race day.”
