NHRA: New Look For JFR Mustangs in 2011

The entire stable of John Force Racing Mustangs received a make-over during the off-season. Gone was the 25th anniversary look of John Force’s Castrol High Mileage Mustang. The gleaming silver was replaced with the traditional green and white look that represented Force and Castrol GTX High Mileage for the previous 24 seasons. During the PRO Winter Warm-Up pre-season event all three new designs were revealed and raced for the first time in 2011.

“I really like the new look. Everyone from our graphic design team to our painters did a great job. I think these hot rods look fast just sitting in the pits,” said team owner John Force. “When we got then out on the track they were some of the quickest Funny Cars of the weekend. “

“Maybe it was that PPG Envirobased paint we have been using,” joked Force.

All the Mustangs have a consistent look with Robert Hight’s Auto Club Ford Mustang sports AAA blue and Mike Neff’s Castrol GTX Mustang carrying the traditional white, red and green look. Courtney Force’s BrandSource Mustang will be redesigned to follow the motif of the other three JFR Funny Cars in coming weeks.

Overhauling the looks of four Mustangs was the easy part. Actually getting the funny cars painted, dried and decaled took a Herculean effort by JFR graphic designers, painters and marketing team. The group had a number of tools at their disposal to speed up the process including the new TurboAir Drying System.

“Running the bodies through the TurboAir Drying System probably cut our drying time in half which made us so much more efficient,” said Dean Antonelli, General Manager of the JFR Brownsburg operation. “That drying process also worked great with the various PPG products we have been using. I don’t know if we would have been able to get as many bodies painted, dried, decaled and ready to race without all these components working so well together.”

The John Force Racing Mustangs will open the season at the 51st annual NHRA Kragen O’Reilly Auto Parts Winternationals, February 24, 2011 at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
