Tim Wilkerson drove his Levi, Ray & Shoup Shelby Mustang to a fine 4.122 on Friday, running 3-thousandths quicker than his Thursday effort, and this time the thousandth paid off.
Unlike yesterday, when Ron Capps earned the last bonus point by outrunning Wilk by a tick, this time Wilk took the precious point by outrunning Mike Neff by a thousandth (4.123).
“It was kind of a good news/bad news deal there, because the clouds rolled in, it cooled off, and the track came around by the time we ran but we weren’t totally set up for conditions like that,” Wilkerson said.
“We did what we could in the lanes, with the timing curve and the fuel mix, and just went out there and took a shot at it. If we’d have known it was going to be that good by the time we ran, we might’ve been more aggressive with the whole combination, but I’ll take a pair of 4.12s back-to-back like that. We just need to keep it up and make this a good weekend. We’re right there, so maybe we can have some fun.”
Wilk’s lap temporarily moved him around Capps and into the No. 3 spot, but Matt Hagan’s 4.088 then knocked the LRS driver back into the same No. 4 spot he held going into this session.
