Tim Wilkerson “tried a little something” on his first Saturday pass, and learned that such a “little something” put his car over the edge in terms of traction.
He came back for the final qualifying pass, on a cool/overcast day, and despite an odd little double-step at the hit, his Levi, Ray & Shoup Ford trucked right down the middle to a solid 4.138. He will race out of the No. 3 slot, and will face Tony Pedregon in round one.
“We just tried some things we’ve been wanting to mess with, and it didn’t like it so we went back to what was working on Friday,” Wilkerson said.
“I have no idea why I kind of double-stepped it, but my foot was just ready to go I guess. I didn’t completely jump the gun, my foot just went down a hair while I was still holding the brake. It still might’ve cost us a few thousandths or even a hundredth, because I’m sure it rolled the car in deep. Just one of those racing things.”
“The most important thing, though, is that it made a very competitive lap and went right down there. Like I said before, we’re pecking away and sneaking up on this thing. We’ll just come out here on Sunday and do the best we can. Maybe this time we can end some other people’s day early.”
