Tim Wilkerson put another solid lap on the board in the afternoon heat, running a 4.207 in Q3, and then came back with what was almost identical lap, running a 4.237 that was slowed by a bit of piston damage at the top end.
In all, he put four very good laps together during qualifying at Infineon Raceway, and will run from the 5th spot. He will face Tony Pedregon in round one.
By picking up one bonus point and then out-qualifying Johnny Gray by 2 points, Wilk increased his tenuous lead for 10th place to 22 points.
“We’re getting a lot better handle on it, but the only thing we had that held us back a little bit there was we’ve been hurting the heads a little with every run,” Wilkerson.
“That last pass was the only one where that sort of thing held us back a little, but we still made four consecutive good laps here and we need to press this on and pick up some very valuable points here. It’s on us, to capitalize on how we’re running better right now. Now’s the time.”
