Rod Fuller on Norwalk

“I’m excited about Norwalk. We hold the track record there and we went to the final round. It’s an awesome track. Bill Bader does a great job promoting the event and we’re excited to help Ohio CAT celebrate its fifth anniversary. Our goal is to continue to go rounds and accumulate points. We also want to have a great David Powers Motorsports race because it’s the home race for Matco Tools.”

Rob Flynn (crew chief) on Norwalk

“We’re looking forward to working with the folks from Ohio CAT and hopefully we can go one round further than we did last year.  We ran well there last year and we’ll try and duplicate that. We really enjoyed the track, it’s a nice facility. The $1 ice cream was a big hit too.”

Last weekend in Englishtown, N.J., Fuller qualified his H.O. Penn CAT dragster sixth with a run of 4.551 seconds at 328.46 mph. The seven-time Top Fuel winner advanced to the semifinals for the 16th time in his professional career. Fuller recorded top speed of the meet honors (328.46 mph) for the fourth time in his Top Fuel career. He also earned his 100th career round win.

The Las Vegas racer moved to fourth place in the POWERade Top Fuel standings after his semifinal finish at the Englishtown race. Fuller has one victory (St. Louis) in two final round appearances this season. He also has recorded low E.T. of the meet honors twice.

Last June at the Inaugural Norwalk race, Fuller raced his all-white dragster to his fifth career No. 1 qualifying award at 4.533 seconds at 323.50 mph. He advanced to the final round where he posted a runner-up finish to five-time series champion Tony Schumacher. Fuller also holds the track elapsed time record at Norwalk (4.533 seconds).

Fuller has qualified for 72 consecutive NHRA Top Fuel events. The last time he failed to make the cut was at the Houston race in 1996 when he was driving the Montana Express dragster on a part time schedule. Fuller has the second longest qualifying streak in Top Fuel (Tony Schumacher). He has an average qualifying position of 7.45 in 11 races this season.

Fuller has 13 career NHRA sportsmen victories in the Super Comp (seven) and Super Gas (six) categories. He has 20 career NHRA national event victories, seven coming in Top Fuel.
